My first Indochino Suit Review!

Today I'm going to talk abut my experience with Indochino.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with Indochino, they are an online made to measure suit company.  It is a Canadian company who's head office is located in Vancouver, but the production of the suits come from China.  I decided to try Indochino with one of the coupon codes I got from redflag deals, in this case I got the suit for 15% off with 2 free shirts and 1 free accessory item.  So I decided to go with the basic black suit, since I was in need of a black suit anyway.  Now comes the interesting part of getting your measurements.  One of the great features of the Indochino website is how simple it is for you to get your measurements.  They not only have a diagram showing what to measure, but they have a video showing you how to do it.  After about ten minutes with the help of someone else your measurements are in.  What I like most about Indochino is the amount of options you have to customize the suit from having working buttons to pick stitching and there's no additional charge for it!  After I placed my order I recieved various emails updating my on the progress of my order.  I think what really surprised me was the speed in which I got my suit, I got in in 12 days! Indochino guarantees that you will recieve your order within two weeks!

Once recieved.....

I gave it an inspection, the quality looked and felt good, though it is a light fabric so it's best for spring/summer/fall months.  I tried it on and the fit was dead on, though it felt tight in certain spots, so I had the suit pressed at the cleaners.  After the pressing the suit fit like a glove.  The only immediate issue I had was that the pant length was about a 1/2" short, so I had them altered.  I suggest you get the pants unhemmed so that there will be no issues, the bonus is that Indochino will reimburse you for alteration fees up to $75.00.  The sleeve and jacket lenght was perfect.  The shoulders fit well and do not overhang.  Overall I was surprised at the quality of the suit, It looked good and felt comfortable on me, so now it was time to put the suit to a real working test.

I had ordered this suit in October, since then I have worn the suit about 12 times.  How has it fared?  Well, after about the 8th time the top button on the suit became really loose, to the point where there was 2 strings holding it, so I had it fixed.  The other issue that appeared, is that at the edge of the jacket where the buttons are a distinct line has formed.  From what I can tell this line is the result of a material on the inside of the jacket finishing before the edge, therefore causing the jacket fabric to sink in causing this line, see the picture below for details.

The line appears right after the buttons

The line is most noticeable in direct light, otherwise you don't really notice it.

In Conclusion.......

I would say that for the price and convenience, Indochino is really worth it.  Although I thought the material was light and suspected that wear marks would occur this has not happened.  In fact the material has stood up very well, and still maintains a new look, I have yet to dry clean it!  The only real downfall is the appearance of the line near the edge of the jacket.  I don't really know the cause of it and it doesn't look like it can be fixed unless I take it to a professional tailor.  All in all I was very impressed and will more than likely order another suit from Indochino.

A note about the two free shirts I received with the suit.  I found that the shirts where not of a very high quality, also they fit real snug on me, after one wash the shirts had already begun to fade.  I would not recommend buying the shirts, though if it comes with the package it's good enough to wear to work a few times before they fade out.

  1. Whats the difference between indochino suit from other suits?

  2. Hi Christine,

Thanks! The main difference from an Indochino suit vs. a suit you can get at a store (off the rack)is that the Indochino suit will be more tailored to your individual measurements, whereas off the rack they are standard sizes which may fit some people well and others not so much.

  3. Very simple fact of life is you get what you pay for. It's hard to see in the photos but, the jacket looks small, short and the gorge is quite high for a 2 button jacket. The important thing though is that as long as you're happy owning it.....

  4. What style suit did you get?

  5. Fit seems really snug. Not a very traditional, conservative looking suit.

  6. The style of the suit is a single breast two button. Which is a common suit style for work or special occasions. Although the suit looks snug it does not feel that way at all. It is a traditional style suit, a basic staple in any man's wardrobe. Because the suit is tailored to my body shape better than an off the rack is, it may appear to look less conservative.

  10. I tend to have a problem with a European slim fit pant, was this suit a fuller cut in the thighs?

    1. I would say it's more of a European fit, but since the pants are customized to your measurements, you really shouldn't have any issues with the fit. Though you can always request a specific style or cut that you prefer, Indochino is fairly good with customizing an individual's order.

  14. I ordered five suits for myself and my groomsmen for my wedding. None of the suits fit at all and the fabric was extremely cheap. None of the suits matched even with ordering the exact same essential gray suit. Customer service didn't allow for refunds. Indochino = a cheap suit

    1. Hey,

Well I've never done a multi-order with Indochino before, but I'm certain that if your dissatisfied with their service that they would have done something to make up for their errors. Their customer service is pretty good and although I've never had any issues in my dealing with them, I'm sure something can be worked out. As for the fabric well it's a decent material for the price you pay, I've had no issues with the essential grey material after many uses, I think it's better than the fabric of the black suit I have from them. Though if you would like to get a feel for the materials before ordering, order the tailors kit from Indochino, as you can pick the materials you'd like to see, and they reimburse the cost of the kit on your next purchase. The only odd comment you mentioned is that none of the suits matched with the same material chosen, that I consider to be an issue, since it is for your wedding and they should look the same. Hopefully you can work out the issues with customer service.

    2. If the fabric doesn't match, what's the point of even having swatches?

    1. Hi,

Well at the end of the day you get a fabric that's in the $350 dollar range of suits, it's decent and does the job, but it's no Vitale Barberis.

  16. Hi Pat,

You got 3 shirts total: 1 with the suit, 2 for free. Is this correct? If so, were all three shirts the same (poor) quality?

    1. No actually I got 2 shirts and 1 accessory, I got the plain white pocket square as the accessory. I have to admit that since I've wrote this article I still have the two shirts, one is purple and the other is a red & white strip (vertical) and even though they faded when new, they really did't fade much afterwards. The shirts are only now starting to look tired and worn, so I have to admit that they did hold up well, but I wouldn't pay a high price for them ($100+), especially when I can get a custom shirt elsewhere for much cheaper. Though I haven't ordered a new shirt from them since, I know that Indochino has modified their shirt fabrics and have some shirts in the $169.00 price range. I can't really comment on these as some are Thomas Mason and some other Italian mill. Generally a Thomas Mason shirt for the $160.00 price is good but then again which collection of the thomas mason is it from, as they have low and high end fabrics? With Indochino it is always a good idea to get a sample of the shirt first by ordering their tailors kit.

  17. Fabric, design and fit matters a lot in suit. A perfect suit is all set to give you an elegant look to your personality. That's why custom design suits are in fashion. Thanks for sharing this information.
